Ice Cube - eminem, rap

All these people bashing this song saying it's not Dre are right, it's not. It's an Eminem song about Dre and it's awesome. I think it's funny how people are calling this track a sellout and saying it's unoriginal yet it doesn't sound like any other kind of rap out there. Ironically these are the same people who are angry because it doesn't sound just like all the hip hop tracks back in the 90's did. If you enjoy raps that include substance and intelligence then download this song. I Need A Doctor [Explicit]

I Need a Doctor, the new single from Dr. Dre and from the forthcoming (hopefully) album "Detox", is not your typical G-Funk masterpiece from the good Doctor. At least that's what many people seem to be saying.

When most people think of Dre, they think of songs like "G Thang" and "STill D.R.E." and the recent "Kush". Piano driven tracks dripping with G-Funk. And they would be right, however Dre's got another side to him too. The side that is kind of out of the left field rockin' tracks such as D12's "Fight Music" or the psychopathic "Natural Born Killers" track that Dre did with Ice Cube. It's not all that west coast banging.

So as soon as I heard the vocals of Skylar Grey begin on this track I knew there would be the backlash from a lot of people who were expecting that old familiar Dr. Dre that they loved, not necessarily the Dr. Dre that was more creative and intelligent.

While Dre's vocals on this song wasn't his strongest (although let's be clear, Dre's not known for writing lyrics), I think Eminem's were very strong. The fact that the lyrical content was so intensely personal to Em, made it even more so. Yes, Em is yelling his lyrics, however I think it's appropriate considering A. the fierceness of the track, and B. the content.

Em's basically letting Dre know how much he feels in debt to him for all he's done for Em's career, and how weird Em feels when he gets the sense that Dre is depending on HIM now. It's like, how do you address a situation where you are suddenly being looked up to by someone you view as YOUR mentor?

I'm much more a fan of Eminem's intelligent and personal lyrics such as this one or "The Way I Am" or "When I'm Gone" to the senseless rantings of some of his other more radio pop type tracks.

Unfortunately people tend to pigeonhole artists into a box of what they want. If it's not a bangin' track talking about chicks and smoking, most people don't wanna hear it from Dre. And if it's not a jokey funny track from Eminem, a lot of cats don't wanna hear that either. And that's sad, because some of their best tracks have been those that go against the grain.

Finally we have Skylar Grey who has shown up on a variety of songs lately, including those by T.I., Diddy-Dirty Money and Eminem. Contrary to another review I do not believe Grey wrote this song (aside from her chorus). Eminem wrote his own lyrics, and I'm not sure who wrote Dre's but considering the personal nature of Dre's verse referring to meeting Eminem I'd think he was involved.

Grey is fantastic on this, and you may or may not remember her from when she performed under her actual name "Holly Brook" on Fort Minor's track "Where'd You Go". Fort Minor being the hip hop side group of Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda.

Very good track, although not all seem to think so. I admit when I first starting listening to it I didn't know if I'd like it, but as it went on it grew on me. And it just makes me more excited for Detox which may or may not ever show up in our lifetimes.

I LOVE this song, but this mix is absolutely terrible. The sound is extremely muddy, over-bassed, and sounds like a low-def recording made from a tape-deck. It's really a shame.

The version performed at the Grammys is about 100x better than this studio track, which is an absolute tragedy.

If the rest of the album is mixed like this, I'm going to pass.

In short: GREAT song, AWFUL/Muddy mix

The title says it all: I love the song - then again, virtually anything my Eminem and Dre is bound to be great, so no surprise there. The quality of the download, however, is something with which I am not impressed. Every other DL from Amazon has been great, but not this one.

I Need A Doctor is a perfect example on why it took so long for Dr. Dre to start launching songs from Detox. Yes, there is alot of Eminem in this song but if you understand the meaning of the song this makes nothing but logical sense. When Dre finally kicks in a verse on this song you will find yourself saying this rap song is ultra dope and hit the replay song option on your player. Dr. Dre has always been the undisputed king of rap and this song is yet another feather in his cap of songs which put other rappers to shame. Buy the mp3 to hear the entire song and the best part which is when Dre kicks in. - Rap - Drums - Hip Hop - Eminem'
