Netflix Streaming - ipod, ipod av cable
While looking for an alternative to Apple's Component AV and Composite AV Cables each priced at $39, a product from SKIVA appeared on Amazon. Their MEDIAADAPTER combines both for less than the cost of one of Apple's cables.
The unit is shipped with two AV cables, a USB adapter and the adapter that plugs into the iPad/iPod/iPhone connector. The AV cables plug into the adapter in clearly marked sockets while the USB adapter plugs in between them.
Switches on the unit allow for Composite, Component, NTSC/PAL and 16:9/4:3 aspect ratios. The latter two handy for foreign travel and connecting to older CRT TVs.
Simply plug the adapter in the connector on the bottom of the iPad/iPod/iPhone and Component or Composite cables into the TV. The audio cables are common to both, so if using Component inputs on the TV, connect the red, green and blue cables and the red and white audio cables to the TV. If Composite is being used, connect the red and white audio cables and the yellow video cable.
As of now, Netflix, Youtube and Apple's iPod and Video apps support video out. It is up to the app developers to support video out, not SKIVA.
The MEDIAADAPTER works as advertised. This is a great product that allows connecting an iPad/iPod/iPhone at home or more importantly, while traveling or going to someone's home or at work to show videos to a group. Included is a Quick Start Guide that is clearly written.
Customer support? I had a question and sent an e-mail. It was answered almost immediately. Skiva Component+Composite Video / AV Cable for iPhone, iPad2, iPad & iPod
I purchased this media adapter for my iphone 4. I always had a hard time putting things on TV Screen. i was looking for cheaper alternative. i was surprised to see the quality of this product. Audio and video quality is great. i was planning to buy this cable ever since i bought my new iphone. Most of the cables in market are not compatible with new iphones but this cable work perfectly. This product is real value for money. i can play my iphone movies anytime on my TV. Its so good.. They shipped it very quickly. The manual was simple to understand. It was packed very nicely. i will recommend this product as 'MUST HAVE' for all IPHONE, IPAD and IPOD users.
I purchased this composite/component cable to use with my iPod. This cable is simple to use & it works! I just followed the very simple instructions on its Quick Start Guide. The audio/video quality on TV is excellent, just as it plays on the iPod. As I worked around the house, I switched to play my iPod music on TV via this cable & the sound quality is very clear. I also took the cable with me when I visited my friends' houses to show off the videos I took on my vacation. It also has a USB port for power, so I can charge my iPod directly. I like this product because of its ease of use, its great quality, its portability and also its affordability. The shipping is very quick too, as the product was shipped the very next day after I ordered.
I got this adapter cable a few weeks back for my iPhone4. We have many videos on our iPhone that we wanted to view on our HDTV. Videos/pictures from traditional cameras can be viewed on our HDTV using the USB ports of the TV, but that does not work for iPhone.
The (free) shipping was reasonably fast; I got it within a week or so. The package consists of an adapter that plugs in to the iPhone's port. There are two sockets on the adapter. One marked as "component" and the other one as "composite". There are two cables: one that goes in the composite socket and the other one does in the component socket. For composite videos (which works on all TVs, but of poorer quality), only the composite cable goes to your TV (i.e., three plugs will go to the TV). For component videos, _both_ cables need to be plugged in to the TV (total 5 plugs). There are four buttons on the adapter: one switches between NTSC (North american standard) and PAL (in Europe/India); one switches between 4:3 and 16:9 formats, and the last two are for selecting component or composite video. This also gives you a mini-USB port (mini-USB to USB cable is included) with which you can keep your iPhone charging if you plan to watch long videos.
Pros: The product is extremely easy to use. Truly plug-and-play. Start a video on your iPhone (stored one, or netflix) after plugging in the cables as per the Quick start card included in the package (and select the input of your TV to the appropriate input if the TV does not pick up automatically), your video will start. Click on the format selector -- your video switches from 4:3 format to 16:9 and vice versa. No hassle. The video quality is very good.
Cons: The documentation/set-up guide can certainly improve. You need to go by the colors when you plug in the cables so that you plug-in the composite and component cables correctly both at the adapter side and at the TV side. Given that there are two red plugs (which is the standard, by the way), it gets confusing. The quick start card is too small, and I suspect many buyers would not quite try to understand it. However, once you get past the cable setup, the thing does work beautifully.
An unexpected limitation seems to be that you cannot use this to view (still) pictures; this is for videos only. Although the product is not advertised for anything other than video, I found it odd.
A minor complaint is that the buttons are placed (on the sides) in such a way that it is very easy to accidentally press the NTSC/PAL button, or the 16:9/4:3 button while switching from composite to component mode (or vice versa).
Given that setup is an one time task, I am still giving the product a 5 star for its usability.
===============================
General comments: Netflix or other online video quality can change drastically if the app senses that your wifi/3g connection quality degraded. Also not all applications have Video out (e.g., Hulu does not). None of these are the product's issue, though. - Video - Ipod Av Cable - Ipod - Iphone'
