I felt I needed to comment on the Toshiba SD-590KA all region DVD player, after I had read one very negative review. I've had this region free DVD player for about two weeks now, and everything has been working fine. I've tested this player using DVDs from region 1, region 2, and region 4. I've also used a region free DVD. It's a very easy to operate region free DVD player, and all you need to do is put your disc into the tray and hit play. The DVD player knows what region the disc is from, and it will play it. The only negative things I can say about this DVD player seem rather petty, and they have to do with the design of the tray. It's a very shallow tray and it's a bit difficult to see if I've put the DVD into the circular holding area. Also, it's necessary to remove the discs carefully from the tray when finished playing them, because the tray doesn't extend out as far as other players I've had. This makes it possible to bang the discs into the player while removing them. I will just have to pay attention on removing the discs carefully, and like I said these negative comments are rather petty. The price for this DVD player was fantastic! I would have bought a region free DVD player years ago if I had known everything was going to be so simple! I got excellent service from New Era Products, and the player arrived in good time via FedEx. If you are a big movie fan like I am, then it would be very beneficial to get a region free DVD player. You can then choose movies and other programs from all over the world! I would recommend this region free DVD player, and I would also recommend New Era Products. Toshiba SD-590 All region Multi-Zone Hi-Resolution Progressive Scan DVD/CD Player for worldwide use.
Ordered this product in order to view a UK comedy series not shipped to the US. Having read other reviews I was quite skeptical, but wanted to try it. It is flawless. Extremely compact. Works perfectly. At this price, amazing.
Caution: it only supports component (red/green/blue) and composite (yellow) video connections, NOT HDMI as suggested by the "other products people buy with this..." add on scheme. So don't buy the HDMI cable. You can not use it. Composite video supports progressive scan and is adequate for most users.
The first review of this DVD player was spot on- but if you know nothing about technical things then rest assured- all you have to is hook it up, drop in the DVD and hit play. I went through and tested my various region DVD's and there was nothing different going from one region to the next- same loading time, same picture quality, same sound ect.
Everything I needed was in the box- so as far as the 'extras' go, I can't add to that conversation.
So if you're starting to purchase import DVD's give this player a chance and enjoy!
I was really leary about buying this dvd player, first of all I had never heard of them and secondly I didn't actually know how it would work. Well, I had bought 2 dvd movies from this site and did not pay attention to the fact that they were in PAL format, what the hell was that, went to put the movie in my dvd player and it stated that "will not play in this region", so I had to find out what that meant, so I called the people that I purchased the movie from (DAVEE) and they explained it to me. I checked out this player and read the reviews and it was actually the reviews that sold me on the fact to get it. Well, I purchased 2 of the dvd players from New Era Products, I ordered them on a Wednesday and got them the next day. Everything is included, all I did was plugged it into my TV and it was up and running with no problems. Thanks fellow review writers, if it wasn't for you all I would have never made this decision. It is great, like you stated, now I can watch whatever the hell I feel like, with no issues.
I purchased this region-free dvd player from a different online merchant for $54 total, tax & delivery included. Got it yesterday via UPS. It works great, and it's a breeze to set up: the usual red, white and yellow dvd plugs, just like any other basic, cheap dvd player. I set this up in a couple of minutes, popped in a Region 2 (PAL format) DVD, and it started right up playing my DVD without any issues at all. The remote works fine, too. I've been using it for the past couple of days without a hitch. Hooked it up to a different TV just to see if it made a difference and it did not; works like a charm on a Sharp and a Toshiba TV. The reviewers who got defective units should return them for a replacement or a refund. I think we've all had experiences buying a piece of equipment that doesn't work right out of the box. That doesn't mean none of the units of that particular model will work - it means you got a dud. So return it! I have no idea why brick & mortar stores like Best Buy don't carry these all-region/region-free dvd players. I'm glad they're available online, and at such a low price. Now I can play all the BBC doc's that aren't available in Region 1 format (like The Story of Maths). I'm pleased! - Multi-region - Multi-region Dvd Player - Dvd Player - Toshiba'
